This place was recommended to me by a teammate of mine. It turned into one of my favorite places in Chico right off the bat. One day after training, the freshmen on the team were very hungry after a draining practice with a lot of fitness. I asked a senior on the team where we should go to eat. He responded, “Halo’s, for sure. Its the best place in Chico.” We decided to take him up on the suggestion. This place is a bit of a drive from campus, located on Esplanade. That is the one fallback on this restaurant, but I have my car up here so it is not too much of a hassle. Walking into the restaurant I was a little skeptical, it was small and empty. I usually like to see people at a restaurant if it is my first time to see if it is good. However, that was not the case here. I ordered the Chicken Katsu. This is a typical Hawaiian Barbeque dish. It comes with a mountain of thin, fried chicken strips, a mountain of mac and cheese, and another mountain of white rice. On the side they give you a sweet sauce to add some zestiness to the meal. The box the food came in, probably weighed around three pounds, they packed it so full, and all just for $9.75. This lasted me for two left-over meals, so three meals in total for under $10. I would highly recommend this to everyone. Great meal for a great price. Although the atmosphere was not great, to me it comes down to the food, simple as that. I look forward to keep going there as I have only been there the one time. I would rate this a 8/10 because of the location and the vibe of the restaurant, however, soley based of food, it is a 10/10.
