Next of my list of affordable places to eat is Kona’s Sandwiches. I found out about this place a while back when a friend took me here. There are two locations of Kona’s but I have only been to the location on Nord Ave. The ambiance at this particular location is very peaceful, as soon as you walk in the place is very wide open, with super cool paintings on the wall. In the left corner, there is a water fountain that provides a relaxing sound. Towards the side of the water fountain, there is a ping pong table that you and your friends could play at. The sandwich is like a very high quality subway, you get you pick what loaf of bread you want, and you get to choose all the toppings. I ordered a BLT with piles of toppings on top. The bacon was super crispy and tasty, along with the lettuce, tomatoes, and what they call the “works.” The “works” consists of mayonaise, mustard, lettuce, tomato, red onion, oil, vinegar and black pepper. There are also free options you can add, and because I enjoy a little spice I ordered jalapenos and peppercinis. For a sandwich that is bigger than the size of my head and the high quality of fresh ingredients going into the food, Kona’s is a very affordable price at around $9-10 for a sandwich and chips and a drink. Ever since I came there with my friend, Julia, I have been showing all my friends to it and they all say the same thing. One time I went in and the owner of the store was there, he is a very friendly person who wanted to talk to me. I learned that he is a Chico State alumni and only hires Chico state students. If you are looking to make some really good sandwiches for a job, Kona’s is the place! I would highly recommend this to all people. I would give this rating a 9/10 for the great food and great atmosphere.
