La Perla

Coming from Southern California, I am a huge fan of Mexican food. Ever since I came up to Chico I have been looking for a good, authentic Mexican restaurant. The first place I will recommend for my readers to go to is the Mexican place La Perla. Located on Broadway street by the Park where they held the farmers market, La Perla provides a relaxing atmosphere with Mariachi and Norteno music playing in the background. However, the first time I went there the restaurant had a weird smell which was offputing. I ended up sticking it out and I couldn’t have been happier that I did, and ever since there has not been that smell in the restaurant. They also have three TVs that are mostly always playing soccer games from the Liga MX, or the league in Mexico. Their menu has a very wide variety of dishes, they have plates, burritos, tacos, enchiladas, you name it. I usually order the California Burrito with Al Pastor meat. For those who haven’t hear of a California Burrito, it has rice, beans, meat, veggies, and potatoes. Being a college student this is a very affordable meal as the burrito is big and around nine dollars. After I ordered, I went straight to the FREE chips and salsa station. There was four homemade salsas to choose from, some spicy and some not. The food game out really quick in tightly rolled tinfoil to keep it warm. My first bite had an explosion of flavors in my mouth. The juicy meat to the crispy potatoes to the spicy salsa and sour lime, this burrito tasted just like home. La Perla lived up to my high expectations since I am from a place where they make some of the best Mexican food in America. I will recommend this place to everyone who enjoys a cheap meal and authentic Mexican food.
