Maddison Bear Garden is one of the legendary places to eat in Chico. They seem to emulate the feel of Chico perfectly. The town is a little quirky, with a very lively college in the middle of it. The restaurant seems to fulfill both the college scene and the people who live in Chico’s taste. The place is jungled with random things hanging off the walls and ceiling. They have everything from bikes to surfboards to random paintings. Everytime I go I tend to have a great experience there, whether it is with friends, the workers, or watching a sporting event, there is always great atmosphere.
The menu consists of a wide variety of burgers and sandwiches. I have been there enough to have tried a few of each. It is impossible for me to pick the best burger because I love everyone that I try. However, one of my favorites is the Singing’ the Bleus Burger. This includes a toasted bun with mayo, a juicy patty, thick-cut bacon, topped off with blue cheese crumbles. I love the taste of the salty bacon and the melt in your mouth texture of the blue cheese. The Jiffy burger is their famous signature burger. I have not tried it though, because I do not like peanut butter. If thick-cut bacon, mayo, pepperjack cheese, and peanut butter on a burger sounds appealing, this may be the burger you have been waiting to try!
Although I do not have a favorite burger, I do have a favorite sandwich. The Atomic Chick consists of breaded chicken breast that is deep-fried and blasted with a Louisiana hot sauce, topped with cheese, mayo, ranch, lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles. The spicyness of the chicken goes great with the coolness and crunchyness of the ranch, lettuce and tomatoes, making for a great sandwich.
